Sometimes in the aftermath of coming to terms with Governor Huckabee's decision not to run for President, we as Christian believers can start to question whether we were following GOD or going off on our own tangent, in our passion and determination to work hard and see Governor Mike Huckabee elected as president. He has all the qualifications, common sense, integrity, personal responsibility & hard work ethics, exceptional communication & oratory skills, and to top it off his almost eleven years as one of our nation's most successful governors, making him the most experienced of would be candidates out there. Governor Huckabee's reliance on GOD and His principles are what ties it all together.
So were we wrong in wholeheartedly working to encourage Governor Huckabee to run for president in 2012? Sometimes we Christians mistake GOD's calling to be obedient for something entirely different. We WERE RIGHT to work hard for Governor Huckabee, However at times, when we hear a word from GOD, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what GOD wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him. Here is a simple story I was given many years ago, that illustrates this point exactly!
A man was sleeping one night in his cabin, when suddenly, his room
filled with light, and GOD appeared. The LORD told the man he had work
for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The
LORD explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his
might.
So, this the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from
sunup to sundown, his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive
surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might! Each night
the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his
whole day had been spent in vain. Since the man was showing
discouragement, the Adversary (Satan) decided to enter the picture by
placing thoughts into the weary mind: (He will do it every time!)
'You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn't moved.'
Thus, he gave the man the impression that the task was impossible and that
he was a failure.
These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man. Satan said,
'Why kill yourself over this? Just put in your time, giving just the minimum effort, and that will be good enough.'
That's what the weary man planned to do, but decided to make it a matter of Prayer and to take his troubled thoughts to GOD. 'LORD,' he said, 'I have labored long and hard in Your Service, putting all my strength to do that which You have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?'
The LORD responded compassionately, 'My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all of your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed.
But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back shiny and brown;
your hands are callused from constant pressure,
your legs have become massive and hard.
Through opposition you have grown much, and your
abilities now surpass that which you used to have.
True, you haven't moved the rock. But your calling was
to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith
and trust in My wisdom. That you have done. Now I,
My friend, will move the rock.'
At times, when we hear a word from GOD, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what GOD wants is just simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still GOD who moves the mountains.
GOD has promised He will never leave us or forsake us. He said His Word is the Lamp to our feet and a Light to our path. Remember who the Word, Lamp, and Light is?
Many times GOD will tell us to go in a direction for a time and then instruct us to go in another direction. That doesn't mean that we heard wrong or that the first instruction was wrong. It just means we are going on the next step in our path. Many times I have heard the LORD's direction and followed it and then still other times I have heard and not followed. I am praying that myself and all of us, including Governor Huckabee and Janet will always be good stewards of what GOD gives us and that we will always have "ears to hear" and be "doers of the Word" that He imparts to us!
Keep taking one step at a time with the LORD's Lamp at you feet!
Thy Word is a Lamp unto my feet, and a Light unto my path. —Psalm 119: 105
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of GOD, you will receive what He has promised. —Hebrews 10:35-36
Are you called to be a speaker? Then speak as though GOD Himself were speaking through you. Are you called to help others? Do it with all the strength and energy that GOD supplies. Then GOD will be given glory in everything through JESUS CHRIST. All glory and power belong to Him forever and ever. Amen.—1Peter 4:11
Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.
As always, GOD speaks to many of us in the same manner. Take time to read the excellent blogs from my dear friends Gary Walter and Randy Davis for their insight into this very thing!
