Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech to Congress, outlining his proposals for upcoming peace talks with the Palestinians. Netanyahu was adamant that Jerusalem must remain undivided. He reminded his audience that Israel is the only nation in the Middle East that guarantees freedom of religion to all faiths. And he said that the Israelis' forefathers had lived in that region since ancient times, so today's Jews are not "occupying" someone else's land, no matter what the revisionists say. The Prime Minister admitted Israel is willing to make some concessions, but certainly not return to its indefensible pre-1967 borders.
Some in the international community ignored Netanyahu’s willingness to make some concessions – instead opting for what appears to be an all or nothing mentality by saying that Netanyahu's refusal to cede Israel's pre-1967 borders is "a declaration of war."
At the same time, President Obama and the White House seems to be confused as to why squishy, lukewarm unclear speeches about America’s role in supporting Israel don’t offer Prime Minister Netanyahu or the Jewish community any peace about the situation. But if President Obama thinks Netanyahu’s position on Israel doesn't have large support, then he should think again. Netanyahu's address was interrupted 31 times by standing ovations...from the US Congress.
Sadly still, many in the international community, always think Israel should make more concessions – and that most certainly includes the Hamas leaders of the Palestinians. In fact, they've made it clear that they won't be satisfied until Israel concedes its own existence. The White House should condemn the Palestinian’s radical position on Israel clearly and repeatedly, and not because the White House wants to score political points with the Jewish support Obama enjoyed in 2008, but because it’s the right thing do.
As a conservative, a U.S. born citizen, and Viet Nam Era Veteran, Why did I choose to put myself in harm’s way for the United States? Allegiance, my family, future family and belief in GOD was my reasoning; I thought that just maybe I could help in some way. I am so very disappointed that the people, we the people, elect to represent our collective wishes, do as they please and vote for anything other than what represents what is good for the country. They are selfish, self-serving and it seems that anyone other than a true American is given what is ours to begin with. I am all for helping; I am also for checks and balances-does anyone in Washington care that they are being cheated out of billions of tax payers’ money every year? My pursuit of happiness ended when Obama became president. I would usually use a pre-fix such as Mr. or President to a proper name but I was taught that commands respect and I am sorry but I have none for this man. When did Americans lose their faith in GOD and all that is good, such as having respect for the flag, watching your neighbors back? When did they lose their work ethics? I still believe I still have hope, I do not give up; I am however running out of time, precious time. I think the Americans will have a good taste of failure, they will learn their lesson and that 'old time religion' will once again be taught and learned. I pray they have humility, bow their heads, re-gain the pride that was once demonstrated by hard working individuals who believed in all that is good-and willingly behaved in a positive manner. God Bless America, and I want to say thanks to Gov. Huckabee.
